In the UK a Medscape poll of doctors were 72% in support of banning cigarette sales after an editorial in The Lancet on 6 December 2003, as against 67% of the general public in support.

The degree of support from interested New Zealand doctors is currently being elicited at www.smokeless.org.nz/doctorsonly.htm
